抄録 | Japanese television advertising in often regarded as a closed system of ineloquent messages which are difficult to understand to non Japanese. The Japanese advertising formula is IESS (Image, Emotion, Soft Sell), a low pressure sale method by presenting emotional images, as opposed to MRHS (Message, Rational, Hard Sell) common in US and other markets. In order to test these assertions, this paper attempts to analyse 586 TVCF (Television Commercial Films) from the Hideo Yoshida Foundation in Tokyo comprising advertisements which were awarded the Dentsu Prizes over three decades. After a brief survey of the findings of Japanese researchers in this field, the paper examines the structure and contents of TVCF from the theoretical point of view of the French school of Semiology. The paper tries to bring out the various directions in which the TVCF is now evolving, and locates these directions in an international context at a time when modern information technology poses new and different challenges to the industry. |
